Type Locality and Naming

Himalayas. The type section is in roadcuts along the Jiacun-Yali and Lhasa-Zham Highways, Nyalam, Xizang (28°26'N, 85°54'E). The Jiaqu Fm was named by Lin Baoyu et al. (1982).

Synonym: (甲曲组)


Lithology and Thickness

It is represented by light purple argillaceous limestone and bioclastic limestone. In the type area, the Jiaqu Fm is 33 m thick.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Regionally, the next younger unit is the Hongshantou Fm of late-Late Ordovician.

Upper contact

Regionally, the next older unit is the Jiacun Fm of Early through Middle Ordovician.

Regional extent

The Jiaqu Fm is exposed in Nyalam on the northern slope of the Himalayan Mountain.

Fossils

This stratigraphic unit yields abundant cephalopods such as Sinoceras chinensis, Michelinoceras xuanxianense, M. paraelongatum; conodonts of Eoplacognathus jianyeensis assemblage, including E. suecicus subassemblage, E. foliaceous subassemblage, E. reclinatus subassemblage, E. robustus subassemblage and E. lindstroemi subassemblage, and Hamarodus europacus-Amorphognathus tvaerensis-Protopanderodus liripipus assemblage.
